Abstract

In the era of global changes in society, the use of an existing tool – information management – helps to make sense of information flows. The purpose of the study is to analyze the problems of information management in records management and archival work in Russia and to determine ways of solving them. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that, in the context of the digitalization and globalization of the economy, it is important to preserve and comprehend the historical context of the emergence and improvement of information management processes, including through the classification of information, which contributes to a better understanding of the paths of its further development. The following are named as the starting points for the creation of an information flow management system in Russia: the numerical method of M. Dewey's Decimal Classification; P. Otlet's introduction of a classification of documents that takes into account their form and material carrier; and the introduction of the Universal Decimal Classification, which, in turn, underlies all reference and information collections in Russia. The works of V. G. Larina and the other developers of the Unified Classifier of Document Information are noted as important for Russian science. The article considers the creation of classifiers, the choice of which is determined by specific tasks. The analysis conducted made it possible to formulate the problems and outline ways of solving them. These are connected with the introduction of modern information technologies. The creation of a perfect classification structure is possible through the introduction of an integral classification structure based on numerous internal connections between values (document characteristics). The continuity of classification systems in records management and archival work can be ensured by defining a set of document metadata that will be uniform for the information systems used in document management and in the archival storage of documents. The existence of a huge number of information systems requires the development of a classifier of such systems, which would streamline the approaches to their selection and use.
