The article discusses the problem of actualizing the theatrical heritage as part of modern visual culture through the museumification of the theatrical space. Traditionally, museum and exhibition projects are implemented using historical artifacts and artistic images in the reconstruction of the space of bygone eras. However, the theater is a living organism, which in the context of 21st century museum studies is characterized as an intangible or "living" cultural heritage. The multidimensionality of the theatrical heritage necessitates the search for forms of museumification of the theatrical space in its living essence, from the "birth" of an idea to the presentation for the audience. The use of traditional forms of museumification ("preservation" of theatrical performances in a static structure and presentation of historical artifacts) is insufficient. The relevance of the choice of technologies for "live" museumification is triggered by the emergence of modern visual technologies that expand the possibilities for preserving the cultural heritage of the theatrical space. The subject of this research is the identification of existing forms of museumification of the theatrical space (including the historical context of theater development) in order to find and/or create new ones that are revealed and expanded through the interaction between the theater and museum institutions. The purpose of this article is to present examples of museumification practices in the theater institution that are already being used in the museumification of the theatrical space. To achieve the research goal, the following principles were used: the problematization of theatrical heritage as part of the intangible ("living") heritage; the sociocultural assessment of museification practices in relation to the theatrical institution through the presentation of empirical material (implemented projects of cooperation between museums and theaters) and the relevance of this issue in scientific discourse; and the cross-cultural analysis of the theatrical and museum institutions as part of the visual culture of the modern sociocultural space. Key findings: The museumification of the theatrical space should be viewed not as a technology for preserving the theatrical heritage in the static traditions, but as the preservation of a "living" element of the socio-cultural environment, where, with the necessary modernization, the origins of theatrical art are not forgotten and the traditional ethical norms of theatrical performance are preserved.
