Abstract. This article aims to comprehensively analyze the phenomenon of tacit knowledge within the context of studying the problem of cognition in scientific and non-scientific fields. For this purpose, using comparative-historical, structural-functional and hermeneutic methods, an attempt is made to identify the common and distinctive features, structure, and processes of tacit knowledge formation in scientific search, daily routine and religion. For each of these areas, this is personal, conceptually unexpressed knowledge, formed through the subjective adaptation of ideas and experience. Subjectivity is considered as a component as well as a common feature of tacit knowledge in science, daily routine, and religion. The subjective component is revealed in the form of guesses-assumptions, when an integrative understanding of something previously hidden and uncertain appears. In scientific search such assumptions, especially expert ones, form the basis of a problem situation, facilitating the formulation of research problems. In daily routine tacit knowledge provides an understanding of hidden social rules, and in the field of religion – the meanings of the transcendental. Tacit knowledge has a different intuitive basis for the fields of knowledge under consideration: intellectual, sensory or mystical. This basis can be both individual and social. Therefore, the personal factor is only one, subjective component of tacit knowledge. No less important is its socio-cultural foundation – the objective component of tacit knowledge's structure. This manifests itself in the characteristics of problem finding, in the methods of solving them, and in the applied system of terms, rooted in tradition and historical context. On one hand, it reflects the ambivalence of tacit knowledge, and on the other hand, the dialectical unity of its subjective (personal) and objective (socio-cultural) components. In daily routine and religion, this unity influences the transformation of the individual picture of the world. In science, tacit knowledge should be considered a rational element for the further construction of a post-classical scientific picture of the world.
